Flyers Shutout by Huskies in Tough 3-0 Loss

The Lewis University Flyers faced a tough defeat on the ice against the Northern Illinois University Huskies on Sunday, February 13th. The match, held at Canlan Sports in West Dundee, Illinois, saw the Flyers shutout with a final score of 0-3.

Despite a valiant effort, the Flyers couldn’t find the back of the net. The team managed to fire off 30 shots, but none could get past the Huskies’ goalie, Matthew Jurgens, who had an impressive night with 30 saves.

The Flyers’ goalie, Thomas Labno, also had a busy night, facing 40 shots from the Huskies. Labno managed to save 37 shots, but the relentless Huskies offense led by Robbie Zimmerman, who scored two goals, proved too much for the Flyers.

Special teams were a significant part of the game, with the Flyers having six powerplay opportunities and the Huskies having five. However, neither team managed to capitalize on these chances, showing the strength of both teams’ penalty killing units.

The Flyers’ Mike Stec racked up 6 penalty minutes, the most in the game, reflecting the physical nature of the contest.

Despite the loss, the Flyers have a chance for redemption as they face the Huskies once again in their next game. The rematch will take place at home on Saturday, February 14th at Canlan Sports in Romeoville, Illinois. The Flyers will be looking to bounce back and claim a victory in front of their home crowd.
