Despite a spirited performance and a higher shot count, the Marian University Sabres fell to the DePaul University Blue Demons in a 3-1 defeat at the Blue Line Family Ice Center on October 9, 2026.
The Sabres outshot the Blue Demons 37-28, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. The powerplay unit also struggled, going 0 for 5. Despite the loss, the Sabres showcased their resilience and determination, keeping the game competitive till the final buzzer.
Blue Demons’ goaltender, Maxwell Hetman, put on a stellar performance, stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced. On the other hand, Sabres’ netminder, Jackson Powers, made 25 saves on 28 shots.
The lone goal for the Sabres came from Cayden Frenette, who managed to beat Hetman in a tense moment of the game. However, the Blue Demons’ Joshua Taylor also found the back of the net, contributing to the visitors’ victory.
Despite the disappointment, the Sabres are looking forward to their next game. They will be hosting the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday, October 9, at 7:30 pm CDT at the Cornerstone Community Center. The team is eager to bounce back from this setback and put on a strong show for their home fans.
